How to Make Jamu

Indonesia is a country with many natural resources that can be used for medicine, daily needs, food etc. One of the best sample is "Jamu". Jamu, a traditional medicine made from natural materials such as bark, flowers, fruits, leaves, seeds, roots, chicken egg, honey, milk and royal jelly. Here some tips for you to make Jamu ala Hard Rock Hotel Bali and to maintain your immune.

Jamu recipe:

  • Sore Throat

Remedy (a)

Ingredients: 50-100g Fresh Ginger + 1,5 tumblers of water

Method: Peel and slice the ginger into fine strips. Boil in water for 5 minutes. Either strain or pour off liquid and drink while hot in the moning and evening till recovered.

Remedy (b)

Ingredients: Juice of lemon or thin-skinned lime + 1 teaspoon light soy sauce

Method: Squeeze the lemon and mix the juice with light soy sauce and drink. Repeat daily.

  • Cough Remedy

Ingredients: 1 medium sized onion, 1 table spoon pure honey, 1/3 lime.

Method: Grate the onion, squeeze the lime and mix the ingredients together. The lime juice and pulp is for binding the other ingredients. If you wish to increase the quantities, triple (never double), the first two items and add to a single lime.

  • Kunir Asem

Benefit : General tonic, this is suitable for treating white vaginal discharge or obesity.

Ingredients: 5 pieces of turmeric (preferably use the grandmother root/Main Root. If the roots are small, grate it instead of slice), pinch salt, 2 pcs of tamarind (size knob of butter without seed), Palm/Brown Sugar to taste, 1.5 glasses of water.

Method: Wash the turmeric, peel/grate the turmeric depending on its size. Mix with the remaining ingredients, add water and heat in saucepan till mixture is just on the boil, removefrom heat immediately and leave to cool. Chill in the fridge before drinking. This recipe for 2 glasses of tonic.

  •  Rock Spa Refresher Drink

Ingredients: 1 pc of Big Ginger (main root), 1 glass Lemon juice, 1 tea spoon honey (can be less or more as you wish), Ice cubes, 1 Mason jar.

Method: Wash and peel the ginger, grate it, squeeze the grated ginger onto the strainer to get the ginger juice. Prepare a mason jar, pour the ginger juice, mix with lemon juice, add the honey and ice cubes. Stir up til it well-mixed. Store in the refrigerator. It cannot be stored for 1 day.
